Our Story

​

After successfully completing the HEVIS Project, the founders of The Neighborhoods Foundation were faced with an important question: “What’s next?”

​

As we reflected on the lessons learned from that first mission, a shared realization emerged — we wanted to create something lasting, something that could help people both locally and globally, without depending solely on the individual efforts of those within the Foundation. Over time, it also became clear that responsibly supporting initiatives halfway around the world was becoming increasingly difficult. So we turned our focus homeward.

The two primary founders looked back on their own experiences and found a deep calling rooted in empathy and shared struggle. Both had faced significant financial hardship. Both had relied on welfare as children. Both had felt the uncertainty of unemployment after the economic shocks of 9/11 and the Great Recession of 2006–2008. In those difficult times, they worked tirelessly to care for their families — and were lifted by the generosity of others. That spirit of neighborly kindness, of compassionate relief, is exactly what we hope to extend to others today.

From that conviction, The Neighborhoods Endowment Fund was born.

The Fund provides direct financial support to individuals and families who are working hard but still struggling to make ends meet. The founders have pledged to contribute personally and invite others to join them. All donations are invested in a diversified, responsibly managed portfolio, overseen without management fees by a trusted investment professional with more than 30 years of experience.

As the endowment grows and generates income through interest, dividends, and capital gains, we will identify and quietly assist individuals who are striving — not seeking a handout, but a helping hand. Whenever possible, these gifts will be given anonymously, preserving dignity while delivering real relief.
